Bell Impresses in Mount Opener - Spring National April 2013

Dave Bell rolled out his minitwin spec retro ER6 for the first meeting at Oliver's Mount; the Spring National on the 21st April. Knowing that he was against many big budget supertwins, including a highly ranked journalist on a much more powerful bike, a decent result was going to be hard to come by.

Despite being down on power to all his rivals, Dave 'rode the wheels off' his minitwin, to come home 8th and 7th in the two Lee Vernon supertwin legs. If RMKD squeeze a few more 'horses' out of the bike for the next meeting, we are sure Dave can be battling much nearer the front.

BELL-t-ER of a Weekend! - Croft NEMCRC 6/7 April 2013

RMKD's season opener was a trip to the North Yorkshire circuit, Croft; fielding a two rider team. Dave Bell now riding his trait ER6 retro, a similar bike to which he has had much past success. Nick Anderson gave the newly acquired SV 650 its maiden outing.

Bell was soon on the pace and won the first three races of the weekend in his minitwin class. In the final outing, Dave pulled away from the field to earn his first outright victory of the season in dominating style. Anderson, hampered by his 'camp' £12 eBay leathers put in some productive performances, steadily improving his lap times throughout the weekend; culminating with a 3rd place in the supertwin class.

Young James Tadman guested for the team on the Sunday and made an instant impact with no more than a warm up lap to get acquainted with the ex Anderson stock ER6, lapping 5 seconds faster than his previous best on board his own ZXR 400 Kawasaki. The talented recruit Tadman next heads to Cadwell Park for the NG meeting on the weekend of 27/28th April.

Swingarm has lightweight rear caliper and quick detachable rear wheel mod by me.

Very minimal wireing loom and uses a zxr400 cdi(rev limit 11,200) and er5 coils.

Dash:-Kawasaki revcounter/digital temp gauge/digital volt meter.

Full sealed large ram air box. Venting at the very front of the bike for optimum effect.

Larger Ducati radiator.

Engine:-

Enlarged exhaust ports

Gasflowed head

Kent cams.

Profiled inlet valves.

Race valve springs. (extra inner spring)

Kawasaki slipper clutch.

Machined standard pistons(to achieve correct squish) 

Standard conrods.

Exhaust is titanium and fabricated by myself and works perfect.

Keihin 41mm flatslides...flow far far better than 38mm throttle bodies. The riders who have tried the bike say they can feel a increase in power after putting carbs on, compared to fuel injection.

Bear in mind that there aren't many special parts for these and most are produced {at this stage} by small time tuners/fabricators.

Its sister bike (ridden by Dan Frear} was quoted by 'Jamie Hamilton' as 'a well turned out bike and equally as fast as Ryans'....Cock of the North..Scarborough 2012.

Dans bike made 94.8bhp...Dave has ridden both,back to back and says his bike is faster. It has slightly different cams so i expect it to make 95+BHP. It runs that well 'straight out the box' so to speak...

Will have foregotten something but that's the main spec.

ROSS-TRUM - MANX GRAND PRIX 2012

Ross Johnson went into this years Manx Grand Prix, hoping it could be lucky number thirteen and finally take winners laurels in the Lightweight race, onboard his Kawasaki ZXR 400. With his freshly tuned RMKD engine, he was more confident than ever. Practice week showed potential, with Ross being second fastest in the time sheets with a speed of 106.793MPH, set on the Thursday Evening. An anticipated late charge from a particular rival based in the north east of the country unsurprisingly, did not materialise.

RMKD mounted Bob Farrington was also 'on the pace' in practice with a lap speed of 100.365MPH.

In the race, Ross Johnson was in second at the end of lap one, and with Howarth retiring on lap two, it put Johnson in the lead. A dream first win to top the ross-trum was on the cards. Tim sayers cut the gap to 2 seconds by the bungalow on the final lap, but Johnson hung on to win with an average speed of 103.196MPH. Bob Farrington came over the line in a strong 8th place.

To summarise... If you want to win, with good reliability, you want an RMKD engine, 'liKe'.

Nick-ER Slick-ER... Derby Phoenix Cadwell Park 13-14 October

New kid on the block Nick Anderson, the Scarborough Uni pre-graduate debuted for team RMKD in the F400 / Mini thunderbikes class. The invincible Dan Frear made his debut onboard his new ER-6 Supertwin, which meant a win was almost impossible.

With too much youthful exuberence earlier in the weekend, and a few dubious technical infringements on behalf of the Derby Phoenix technical staff, it was left to the last outing of the weekend to grind out a result. With Dan Frear heading home due to having unsuitable tyres for the wet conditions, Nick could see nobody to challenge his pace in the mini-thunderbikes class. Stepping onto the stock ER for the first time all weekend from the back of the grid, Nick wasted no time in catching the bumbling pack. Powered by his new RMKD engine Dan stamper being the only person to shine out in the gloomy conditions. By the end of lap 2, Nick was in a dominant lead in the mini-thunderbikes class, chasing BSB bound Stamper for outright victory. He pulled further away from rivals in his class, finishing 4 seconds behind outright winner Dan Stamper. He confidently pointed towards the sky whilst wearing his winners cap, before later slurping a celebratory drink of champers from his winners pot, which he had rightfully earned.

With his feet now well and truly locked under the RMKD table after that sterling result, it has now left team boss Roger Middleton with a dilemna of how quickly to move onto the next level.

Cock of the north...Pole...24th/25th July

The RMKD team were anxious about the debut meeting of their newly finished ER6 Supertwin as they headed to Olivers Mount. A few laps of Cadwell Park 3 weeks earlier had showed its potential but hardly a shakedown and with Ryan Farquhar, Adrian Archibald,Ian Lougher and Ian Pattinson in the line up it was going to be a tough call.

Free practice showed a few flaws in the suspension set up and adjustments were made. Timed qualifying was next up and Dan Frear was on the money...setting pole and dipping under Farquhars lap record. Everything going to plan and more ! unfortunatly whilst leading from the off Dan encountered a slight problem with the throttle and had to retire, the 'problem' which we thought we had cured then occured again in Sundays race and again he retired the ER. A little bit dissapointed but not disheartened by the 'straight out the box' potential.

Dan also rode the RMKD ZXR 398cc and the results were a formality,no one getting within 4 seconds of his lap time and he brought the little Kawasaki home untroubled some 20 seconds ahead of his nearest rival James Cowton on his Honda.

Thundersport is go !.... Cadwell Park 29th/30th May

This meeting was supposed to be the debut outing for the long awaited Kawasaki 650 supertwin/GP2 machine we have been developing over the winter. A very busy work load has ment our own bike has had to take a back seat and we narrowly missed the deadline.

Having the option of the the reknown zxr 398! or the stock engined er6 Dan Frear opted for the ever competative zxr. With only 5 laps completed of the 20 minutes timed qualifying Dan was happy to take his front row position, only being pipped by the Alan Percival. Race one saw the lead change several times eventually Dan taking 2nd place behind Marty Lennon and his rapid ER650 with Alan Percival 3rd. A slight engine fault in the 2nd race saw Dan pull the little Kawasaki up and retire from the race.

Monday saw the heavans open and the RMKD team opted for the 650 Kawasaki, a good decision as the first race saw Dan take a solid 3rd after a few close calls in the appauling conditions and take a well earned win in the 2nd race after a race long battle with Marty Lennon on a much quicker bike.
